David de Gea sends message to Man United hero after 4-3 Liverpool win
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has sent out a supportive message after the club’s 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup.
United won the quarter-final clash in the most dramatic style with a 120th-minute winner from Amad Diallo.
Beforehand, however, United were looking likely to end the game in defeat when they were 2-1 down in the 86th minute.
Erik ten Hag’s side seemed like they were heading towards the exit of the competition, but one unexpected player stunned Liverpool with an equaliser.
Antony slotted his shot into the back of the net with a smart right foot finish on the turn to ensure the game went to extra time.
It was a much-needed boost for the winger who has had troubles across the course of the season.
What an unforgettable day!” he wrote on Instagram. “Until the last minute… That’s what it means to be a United!! Proud to help and I will never stop fighting and working hard! Let’s go, family!”
De Gea worked with Antony last season at Old Trafford. The goalkeeper, who is still yet to sign for a club since his summer exit, replied to Antony with a supportive message.
“You deserve a lot, brother,” the ex-no. 1 wrote in response.
Harry Maguire also messaged: “What a performance.”
Antony was not the only right winger to excel in the game, with Amad Diallo scoring the winning goal in the 120th minute.
United face Coventry City in the semi-final at Wembley, with Chelsea vs Manchester City being the other game.
