The Premier League has seen Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp go head to head for almost half a decade as Manchester City and Liverpool have become the two strongest teams in England.

Once upon a time, it was Manchester United and Arsenal who vied it out for Premier League glory, with Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger at the helm of their respective clubs – however both clubs have fallen from grace across the last decade from their former glory.

With Erik ten Hag and Mikel Arteta at the forefront of each club now, it looks like both the footballing giants are awakening from their slumber as they head into battle on Sunday afternoon.

“I hope so,” David de Gea answered when asked about the prospect of Ten Hag and Arteta becoming the next big managerial battle in the Premier League.

“We are talking about one of the best managers in history, probably, (in) Sir Alex, and (Wenger), so there’s different eras.

“I think football has changed a little bit, but I think both managers are really good now. Arsenal are playing well, so it’s going to be a big game.”

The Spanish shot stopper also added that it is great to see both clubs performing well after a period of dry and uninspiring seasons, with neither side reaching consistent Champions League football in the last few years.

“Yeah, of course (it’s good to see United and Arsenal performing well),” he said. “Both teams have been massive clubs. They are great teams, always playing to win trophies.

“So it’s nice to play now and both teams are in a good shape, playing well. So yeah, it’s going to be a massive game, of course, and we want to win. We are going there to try to beat them.”

One fixture that will immediately come to mind when mentioning David de Gea and Arsenal in the same sentence is the record-equalling performance De Gea put in at the Emirates in December 2017.

David de Gea saved 14 shots that match, the joint-most a keeper as made in a single Premier League game at the time, with United running away 3-1 winners in what was a fantastic performance under Jose Mourinho.

“That was a great game,” De Gea recalled. “Especially because we won that game. Hopefully I can make another big (performance), and the team together, and this could be a massive three points for us.

“It’s always tough. Especially there [at the Emirates], playing there. They always have quality players; they want to play from the back, and they have fast players in front.

“They are a great team and it is a nice game to play. So let’s go, let’s go there and try to win.”
