David de Gea has detailed the clear message Erik ten Hag sent to his Manchester United players after they progressed to the Europa League quarter-finals.

The Reds were comfortable victors over the two legs against Real Betis in the round of 16, winning 1-0 away on Thursday after bringing a 4-1 scoreline to Spain from the first leg at Old Trafford last week.

Marcus Rashford grabbed the only goal of the game at the Benito Villamarín Stadium with a long-range strike moments after he missed an opportunity from inside the box.

De Gea and his backline earned another clean sheet but the goalkeeper explained that their focus needs to immediately be on the next game.

United play against Fulham in the quarter-final of the FA Cup on the weekend and are eager to reach Wembley for the second time this season.

“The manager said come on guys, take the shower and go home quickly to recover as soon as possible,” explained De Gea on MUTV.

“It is non-stop. We play again on Sunday, another big game, another big competition, so we have to recover really well. Prepare the game as best as we can and go again.”

A much-needed international break should give United the chance to regroup and push forward into the final stretch of the season.

After their Carabao Cup heroics, Ten Hag’s men want to lift more silverware before the season ends.

“Every trophy is important for us,” added De Gea. “The manager has shown [that], putting a strong team out for every game.

“Of course, we want to try to win the [Europa League], there are still good teams, but we are confident, we believe in ourselves and let’s see what happens in the draw.”
