Dan Ashworth has sent an important message surrounding Manchester United’s deadline day transfer strategy after he attended the Europa League draw.

United have signed four players for Erik ten Hag’s first-team so far this summer but they are expected to be busy on deadline day.

Sporting director Dan Ashworth was present in Monaco alongside Sir Dave Brailsford to attend the Europa League draw on Friday afternoon.

United’s full draw includes clashes against teams such as Rangers, Feyenoord and FC Porto, but the United chiefs will not only be focused on those games while in France.

Instead, that is where Ashworth will be stationed for the final hours of the transfer window, with United working on several deals.

Scott McTominay’s exit and Manuel Ugarte’s signing are the two big deals yet to be confirmed, but they are essentially done with both players completing their medicals.

Jadon Sancho could leave before the deadline with Chelsea leading the race but Juventus also credited with interest. United’s potential swap deal with Raheem Sterling coming looks unlikely.

Young star Sekou Kone is also expected to sign for United before the deadline although fans will be hoping that there is a surprise signing in the final hours of the window.

Speaking to journalists after the Europa League draw, Ashworth admitted that there is still business to be done for United in the final moments of the window.

“I had a few missed calls [during the draw]. I kept getting nudged by Sir Dave Brailsford!” he laughed, as per Mike Keegan.

“My phone was vibrating. Let’s see what happens. The window is still open. We’ve got some conversations going on.”

When TNT Sports asked Ashworth if he was pleased with the window so far, he added, “Very much so far. There are still a few hours to go.

“So who knows what happens in the last few hours, but so far, we’ve been really pleased with the business that we’ve done in and out.

“Let’s see what happens, but as I said at the moment, we’re really pleased with the business we’ve done so far. We’ve got a couple of conversations going on; that’s all I can say.”
