Manchester United return to Premier League action after drawing 2-2 away to Barcelona in the Europa League.

Erik ten Hag‘s men secured an important away 2-2 draw with Barcelona in thrilling Europa League tie draw against Xavi’s Barcelona, with Marcus Rashford shining once again for Manchester United and becoming only the third ever player to score for United against Barcelona at Camp Nou.

The Reds will be eager to secure three points in order to stay just behind Arsenal and Manchester City, with the former defeating Aston Villa 4-2 on Saturday and the latter facing Nottingham Forest.

There has been considerable controversy surrounding refereeing in the Premier League lately, with Lee Mason no longer being an official for Premier League fixtures after his error potentially cost Arsenal three points against Brentford last weekend.

The officials for the United fixture have been confirmed.

Match referee

Stuart Attwell will be in charge of the fixture at Old Trafford.

The 40-year-old has refereed 18 fixtures this season across three competitions, with 15 of these in the Premier League.

He has officiated three United fixtures this season: the 4-0 loss against Brentford, 1-1 draw against Chelsea, and most recently the 2-1 win over Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Assistant Referees

Darren Cann and Ian Hussin will be assisting their fellow countryman as linesmen for the tie.

Video Assistant Referees (VAR)

Paul Tierney will be operating the VAR at Stockley Park, with Neil Davies as his assistant. Tierney refereed United’s most recent Premier League fixture, the 2-0 win over Leeds United at Elland Road.

Fourth Official

Peter Bankes will be the one on the touchline between Brendan Rodgers and Erik ten Hag. Ten Hag might have to make sure he is on his best behaviour for the tie after receiving a yellow card in midweek against Barcelona.
