Confirmed match officials: Manchester United vs Barcelona (Europa League)
Manchester United welcome Barcelona to Old Trafford as the second leg of their Europa League knock-out tie plays out on Thursday evening.
Erik ten Hag‘s men travelled to Barcelona last Thursday in a hotly-anticipated fixture, with Manchester United coming away from Camp Nou with a 2-2 draw.
The player of the fixture was no doubt Marcus Rashford, who clawed United back into the game scoring one and creating another after Marcos Alonso’s headed effort gave Xavi’s men a second-half lead.
Raphinha equalised for the home side with 15 minutes left to play as his in-swinging cross evaded both Barcelona’s attack and United’s defence to nestle into the back of David de Gea’s net.
Speaking about the tie on Wednesday afternoon, Erik ten Hag said: “We have to keep in the same mindset, every day we want to give a better version of ourselves. Tomorrow we have to give the best performance of the season, we believe in it.”
“For me, the next game is always the biggest game. I’m not the type to look back, I look forward.”
The match officials for the fixture have been confirmed below.
Match referee
French referee Clément Turpin will be in charge of the fixture at Old Trafford.
The 40-year-old has refereed 20 fixtures this season across five domestic and international competitions and has handed out 50 yellow cards in the process. He has also brandished four red cards, with two of these being double yellows.
He is the same referee who officiated Manchester United’s 2021 Europa League final, in which United lost on penalties.
Assistant Referees
Nicolas Danos and Benjamin Pagès will be assisting their fellow countryman in the Europa League fixture, tracking the defensive lines of both teams.
Video Assistant Referees (VAR)
Jérôme Brisard will be operating the VAR at Stockley Park, with Willy Delajod as his assistant. They will be in charge of monitoring the referee’s decisions throughout the fixture and providing recommendations or overturning decisions as Barcelona and United go head-to-head.
Fourth Official
Jérémie Pignard will be the one on the touchline between Xavi and Erik ten Hag. Ten Hag might have to make sure he is on his best behaviour for the tie after receiving a yellow card in the first leg.
