One club director has confirmed that contact with Manchester United over a possible transfer is still open despite concerns over a deal.

Mason Greenwood looks certain to depart United this summer after spending the last season on loan at Spanish club Getafe.

The Reds agreed to a deal with Marseille over Greenwood’s transfer, but recent comments from the French city’s mayor criticising the move have slowed it down.

Greenwood is unsure about the move, and other options are hovering around, including Lazio, who have been linked with the 22-year-old in recent weeks.

Lazio director Angelo Fabiani has addressed the situation regarding Greenwood in recent days when asked by TuttoMercatoWeb.

He confirmed that the club are still talking to United about the player but dodged an additional question about whether he was confident about the signing.

“We were already dealing with him last year, we are still in contact with Manchester United,” he admitted.

“There are still hassle but this is part of the football market, the devil’s advice is eaten by the fox and I am not a fox.”

Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour in January 2022 before all charges were dropped in February the following year.

It was confirmed that he would not restart his career at Old Trafford, and it now seems extremely likely that he will depart the club permanently this summer.
