Christopher Vivell flew to watch RB Leipzig this weekend, and although he was there to watch Benjamin Šeško, a different Manchester United star stunned Bundesliga fans.
Manchester United are looking to strengthen Rúben Amorim’s attacking options this summer to address the team’s ongoing goalscoring issues.
While the club have been linked with strikers such as Liam Delap, Victor Osimhen, and Benjamin Šeško, they are also keen to bolster their wide positions.
In Amorim’s system, United play with a central striker and two wide attacking midfielders. With Alejandro Garnacho struggling for form and Christian Eriksen’s departure looming, reinforcements are deemed necessary.
The club are reportedly targeting forwards who can play on both wings and add extra creativity, a responsibility that has largely fallen on Bruno Fernandes in recent weeks.
Vivell travels to scout Šeško
As per German reports, Manchester United’s head of recruitment Christopher Vivell flew to Germany last weekend to watch two Bundesliga fixtures.
He was in attendance to watch RB Leipzig defeat Wolfsburg 3-2 before watching VfB Stuttgart fall to a 2-1 defeat at home against SV Werder Bremen.
According to said reports, Vivell flew to Germany in order to keep a close eye on Leipzig striker Šeško, with United’s search for a new striker this summer now in “full swing” at Old Trafford.
Vivell has known about the Slovenian’s talent for a long time after signing him at RB Salzburg when the striker was just 16, and with Šeško reportedly “certain” to leave the Bundesliga side this summer, United are very much in the mix.
It was Simons who shined vs Wolfsburg
Although Vivell was in attendance on Friday night to watch Šeško, it was United’s other target, Xavi Simons, who stole the show.
Simons has been desrived many times as a “game changer” player who Amorim reportedly sees as a possible fantastic addition to his front three.
The Netherlands international netted twice during the 3-2 win, earning a 9.2/10 rating from FotMob in front of Vivell, also creating four chances and 31 out of his 37 attempted passes with 60 touches of the ball across his 85 minutes.
He also put in his fair share of defensive duties as a left winger on the night, making six recoveries and winning six duels includign both of his attempted aerial duels.
While it was Šeško who Vivell travelled to keep an eye on, it will be Simons who will have made a more lasting impression on the United chief.
