Manchester United starlet Chido Obi was called up to Denmark’s under-21s squad this month and played in both of their friendly games.
Chido Obi is enjoying a standout season as he continues his rise through the ranks at Manchester United and within the Denmark setup.
After making the switch from Arsenal to United last summer, Obi initially featured for the Under-18s before his impressive displays earned him a spot in the Under-21s squad.
The 17-year-old’s progress caught the attention of Ruben Amorim, and with injuries impacting the first team, he was handed an opportunity to step up into the first-team squad.
Obi has since made four senior appearances, debuting in both the Premier League and FA Cup, though he remains ineligible for the Europa League. This development was further recognised with a call-up to Denmark’s under-21s earlier this month
Obi could have huge summer decision
Obi made his debut for Denmark’s under-21s last week in a dramatic 3-3 draw against Poland U21s, with the United youngster coming on in the final 15 minutes of the game.
His cameo clearly impressed manager Steffen Højer, who decided to give Obi over 20 minutes in another friendly against Italy’s youth side.
The game ended 1-1 but it seems like Obi is making a positive impression and could continue in the Danish under-21s squad going forward.
However, that also brings upon the prospect of Obi being called up for the Under-21s European Championships in the summer.
That competition is being held in Slovakia and held from the 11 June to 28 June. Should Obi play for Denmark there, it is unlikely he would be involved in the early stages of pre-season with Amorim’s side.
The Reds already have several games pencilled in for their trip to the United States and it would be an opportunity for Obi to continue being part of the first-team squad and getting game-time ahead of the new season.
However, it is also a great honour to play for your country, especially at a tournament, and Obi will likely be dwelling on the decision if he does end up being selected.
United have four confirmed pre-season games
United are set to play three familiar rivals in the summer as part of the Premier League’s Summer Series.
Games against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton are set to be played in the United States while a trip to Sweden to face Leeds comes just beforehand.

There is likely to be at least one more pre-season fixture scheduled for United, potentially to be played at Old Trafford or somewhere else in Europe.
The 2025/26 Premier League campaign will then kick-off on Saturday 16 August 2025, with the fixture list to be released closer to the time.
