Chelsea have been told to sign one Manchester United star who is likely to leave the Old Trafford club in this coming summer transfer window.

Both clubs have had underwhelming campaigns this term. However, United and Chelsea are in each side of the semi-final of the FA Cup – with the competition being the only real chance of success left for them.

The Blues have signed many players since Todd Boehyl and co entered the building and not many of those signings have been overly successful.

United will be expecting a busy upcoming summer themselves with INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe in charge, and Chelsea could also be looking to make a bang in the window.

The London-based club has been told by their former defender Glen Johnson to sign Raphaël Varane from United to help the Stamford Bridge team.

Varane’s future at United is unknown since he will not be offered an extension on his current deal.

Instead, United are hoping to make an agreement with the defender on lower terms but an exit could be on the horizon.

“Yes, definitely. Good players like that don’t come around often and they certainly come around less often on a free transfer,” Johnson told BetFred.

“I know he’s not the Varane he was three or four years ago but he’s still a bloody good player.

“Yes, he’s had his injury problems but that’s what outweighs the transfer fee – if you’re buying him on a free and he’s only playing 40% of the games, then that’s still a good deal to do.

“As we saw with Thiago Silva, those sort of players who have done everything, played for top teams and clubs, they get the attention of the dressing room and they’re the big names that the younger players want to look up to and obviously they’re great to have around.

“So, if you have got a chance with Varane on a free transfer and he’s only going to play 50% of the games, I still think it’s a good deal.”
