Chelsea’s opening offer for Alejandro Garnacho has been revealed as the Manchester United winger is reportedly open to the move.

Manchester United are looking to offload several players during the January transfer window as they aim to improve their finances ahead of an important summer.

Rúben Amorim’s side began 2025 on a high, drawing with Liverpool, knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup on penalties, and defeating Southampton 3-1, with Amad stealing the show with a remarkable 12-minute hat-trick. However, their progress was marred by a 3-1 defeat to Brighton, which has tempered the optimism.

Despite the team’s clear need for reinforcements at left-back, in midfield, and in attack, their transfer activity has been slow-moving.

Amorim has expressed his intent to retain the majority of his squad, but United are ready to offload several players before the window closes, with loan deals expected to account for most departures.

Chelsea’s bid for Garnacho revealed

Alejandro Garnacho is the player who is most likely to leave United on a permanent transfer this month, with both Napoli and Chelsea having been linked with a move to the player.

However, in recent days, it has been reported that Napoli is stepping away from the transfer and that Chelsea has a free run to sign the 20-year-old this month should they choose to do so.

According to the Daily Mail, it has now been revealed that the London club are set to make their first offer for the player and feel that a bid of around £60 million, including add-ons, could seal the deal.

Garnacho is said to be open to the switch as, if he leaves United, his preference would be to stay in England.

United have been demanding between £65-70 million for Garnacho this month, depending on which report is to be believed.

Why United are open to selling Garnacho

Garnacho’s transfer fee this month would significantly alleviate the financial pressures United currently face.

A press release on Thursday in reply to an open letter saw the club admit that they are close to breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations despite having passed the test for the 2023/24 campaign.

Whatever fee United may recoup for Garnacho would go down as pure profit on the club’s books as he is an Academy graduate despite signing from Atletico Madrid for £420,000 in 2020, allowing them to spend money to improve Amorim’s squad.

The club are said to be negotiating with Lecce for the transfer of potential left wing-back Patrick Dorgu, although negotiations have seen the club sit fairly far apart in their current valuations of the player.
