A Celtic star player has generated interest in a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United possibly interested.
Michael Carrick’s Manchester United remain in third place in the Premier League despite their 2-1 loss to Newcastle United on Wednesday evening.
The Reds have a crucial match against Aston Villa on Sunday that will be key in the race for Champions League football.
With European qualification looking likely for United, a squad revamp will be needed in the summer to improve depth and allow for rotation amongst the squad. It is still unknown who will be managing the club throughout the summer, with Carrick in an undetermined interim role.
The summer focus seemingly remains on the signing of a defensive midfielder due to Casemiro’s announcement that he will be leaving the club in the summer and Manuel Ugarte’s lack of form and minutes this season.
Options for defensive midfielders have included a number of Premier League talents, including Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, all providing youth and experience to the side.
Celtic’s Nygren gaining attention
Celtic star Benjamin Nygren has been on top form for the club this season, scoring 15 goals in 29 Scottish Premier League appearances, the second highest in the league. The attacking midfielder’s form has created a growing interest from Premier League sides.
Former Premier League winger Anders Limpar and fellow Swede, told The Glasgow Times, that he believes Nygren has the potential to thrive with another chance-creating club, such as United.
The winger went on to say, “He is a prospect and he’s going to get better. Imagine him playing for a top Premier League side. I’m not saying that Celtic are not top side but they are in Scotland. Nygren could play for Manchester United and he’d probably score 20 goals a season in the Premier League.”
With high expectations for the star and Nygren being such a crucial player to Celtic, the attacking midfielder is expected to have a high price tag in the summer if Celtic look towards a move.

How could Nygren fit into the United side?
Nygren has an ability to play in a number of attacking roles, including striker and in midfield. This will be key if he is to join United; with Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes dominating the attacking midfield roles, Nygren will have to be flexible in his positioning.
Nygren could provide much-needed rotation with rumours of Mason Mount leaving in the summer and the European schedule putting pressure on the club. The 24-year-old could provide healthy competition across the frontline.

Nygren has also been linked to Everton and Arsenal. A move to another Premier League side could allow him to prove himself in English football and attract a further move to United if they are not currently convinced.
With uncertainty over who will be managing the side over the summer, it is hard to determine how United will set up tactically next season and the roles that will be needed. But INEOS are expected to support whoever takes charge financially.
