Carlos Baleba ‘wants to join Manchester United’ but £87m Brighton star unwilling to do one thing to secure transfer

Manchester United are interested in signing Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba but the Brighton midfielder is unwilling to do one thing to secure a move.

Manchester United made an assertive start to the summer transfer window by signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves on day one, while also securing highly-rated young defender Diego Leon.

After extended talks, the club completed the signing of Bryan Mbeumo, meaning all three additions are currently with Ruben Amorim’s squad on their U.S. tour.

The focus has now shifted to finalising a deal for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško, with an agreement believed to be close. His arrival would complete a major overhaul of United’s frontline.

Elsewhere, the Reds continue to be active in the market and are prioritising midfield reinforcements. Reports suggest that initial contact has been made with Brighton regarding a potential move for Carlos Baleba.

Baleba unwilling to do one thing to secure United transfer

United’s interest in Baleba has excited many fans, even though it is known that Brighton are extremely tough negotiators.

One aspect which could help a deal is if the player tries to force a move through. Mbeumo did similar when he made it clear to Brentford that he wanted an Old Trafford move.

But reports from AfricaFoot explain that even though Baleba wants to join United, he is unlikely to engage in a power struggle with his current club to encourage a move.

It was added that United are counting on Baleba’s willingness to join to help reduce his price tag, which is at around £87 million.

Regardless of Baleba’s actions, United will not be able to finance a deal until they make sales, with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho available for transfer.

United know the exact profile they need

Should the Reds actually somehow secure this deal, it would be a major display of intent from the board and Amorim would have an extremely strong team heading into the new season.

The only major question mark left in the team would be the goalkeeper, with André Onana still yet to truly impress in a United shirt.

But the forward line and midfield would have major upgrades, while the wingback situation also looks healthier with Patrick Dorgu’s development.

If they cannot secure Baleba, though, it is clear that United know the exact kind of profile they need in the engine room. Whether they would look elsewhere or wait to sign the Cameroonian next summer remains to be seen.
