Burnley set Manchester United Sander Berge ultimatum, offer positive update
Burnley have given Manchester United an ultimatum regarding their pursuit of Sander Berge but have offered a positive position regarding negotiations.
Manchester United opened the 2024 transfer window with two major signings, bringing in Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and beating Real Madrid to capture Leny Yoro from Lille.
With these acquisitions costing a combined £88 million, the club now needs to sell players to finance further transfers. Erik ten Hag has already begun reshaping his squad, with Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala, and Alvaro Fernandez among those departing.

United’s next focus is on strengthening key areas, particularly in midfield, right-back, and centre-back positions. In recent days, there have been strong links with Burney midfielder Sander Berge.
United fans will be familiar with Berge, who has played for both Sheffield United and Burnley in the Premier League and performed well for both clubs against Ten Hag’s men.
And now, with midfield reinforcements needed, the club have seemingly turned to the 26-year-old Norweigan international as an option in midfield after they distanced themselves from a deal with Paris St. Germain for Manuel Ugarte.
But, according to The Mirror, Brunley have issued an ultimatum regarding Berge. They have told United that they must pay their £30 million asking price if they want the player to move from the Championship back to the Premier League this summer.
Burnley signed Berge for £15 million during the final year of his contract at Sheffield United, and according to the report, feel the four-year deal and his performances last campaign have doubled his value.
However, they have offered a positive to United, with Burnley happy not to stand in the way of his transfer as long as they feel they have retained the full value of the player.
UtdDistrict understands that United are determined to sign a new midfielder before the transfer window closes, regardless of any outgoing transfers.
While the club ideally aim to secure two midfielders by the end of August, bringing in a second player will hinge on players being sold.
The club has already engaged in discussions regarding one potential target, AS Monaco’s French international Youssouf Fofana, as they explore the possibility of a transfer.
