Bryan Mbeumo reveals the Man Utd legend he couldn’t stop watching on YouTube, Matheus Cunha loves him too

Bryan Mbeumo has revealed that he was watching one Manchester United legend regularly on YouTube when he was growing up.

Manchester United got their summer transfer market off to a positive start after securing the signature of Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha.

The Reds have been heavily tipped to add Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo as their second incoming this summer after impressing in the Premier League this season.

Mbeumo started all 38 games for Brentford last season and the robust forward’s 20 goals helped Brentford finish comfortably in 10th with Thomas Frank’s side outperforming United by some distance.

The Cameroonian international has agreed personal terms with United, with the two clubs now looking increasingly likely to strike a deal in the coming days.

Mbeumo has also recently dropped some hints about his admiration for United.

The Brentford star has revealed that United legend Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the players he modelled his set-piece game on.

Speaking to Jeremy Lynch on his YouTube channel, Mbeumo said: “So when I was young, I watched Ronaldo so much on free kicks, I watched the YouTube videos as well.

“How to shoot like Ronaldo, using this part [instep] of the boot right here.”

In that same video, the 25-year-old proceeded to find the net with Ronaldo’s classic knuckleball technique on repeat, and that is something United fans will want to be seeing at Old Trafford.

Cunha also idolised Ronaldo and co growing up

Mbeumo isn’t the only potential future United forward who grew up studying Ronaldo. Cunha, the club’s first signing of the summer, has also admitted he was captivated by Ronaldo’s performances during his formative years.

The Brazilian was interviewed by MUTV after his move to Old Trafford was confirmed and spoke at length about the legendary United side that shaped his footballing dreams. Ronaldo, unsurprisingly, was right near the top of the list.

“It’s always hard to talk because I remember the whole squad from the time I started to watch,” he told the club’s media channel.

“But of course, I can mention a lot of players. Ronaldo, everyone knows it is easy to talk about him. Ryan Giggs, everyone! I can see the team, Edwin van der Sar in goal, wow! Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in defence, Paul Scholes, wow, Michael Carrick. That team for me had a big impact on my teenage years.”

With both Cunha and Mbeumo having idolised Ronaldo during their youth, United may have added two attackers with a shared mindset, driven by ambition, moulded by one of the game’s greatest icons.
