Bryan Mbeumo reacts to Manchester United’s £70m bid as Brentford ‘expected’ to accept offer

Bryan Mbeumo has informed Brentford of his thoughts on Manchester United’s third bid as Rúben Amorim looks to secure his third summer signing.

Manchester United have submitted a third bid of £65 million plus a further £5 million in add-ons as they look to secure Bryan Mbeumo as their third summer signing.

Having signed Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon so far this summer, Rúben Amorim wants as many of his first-team signings as possible through the door before the beginning of the Premier League campaign.

Recent reports have suggested that Brentford are yet to respond to the club’s bid, but with their asking price set at around £70 million, there is confidence within United that their offer will be accepted. Standard Sport have also reported that it’s expected Brentford will accept the offer.

While it’s not thought that Mbeumo will play any part in United’s pre-season fixture against Leeds on Saturday afternoon, if the offer is accepted, the Cameroon international will join his teammates in the United States by Tuesday.

This is the third bid United have submitted for the player this summer, having already had packages of £55 million and then £62.5 million rejected.

However, according to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, Mbeumo has explained to Brentford that he feels United’s latest offer is a fair one and that it should be accepted.

Furthermore, Jacobs has told The United Stand that he wants to leave West London club this summer, and that his only desired destination is Old Trafford.

Having scored 20 league goals from the right flank last campaign, he would be a game-changing addition to Amorim’s front line, with the club looking to sign a striker, too.

Mbeumo directly involved in negotiations

After United’s second bid of around £62.5 million, including add-ons, was rejected, there was what felt like a mammoth gap between that and their third offer.

According to journalist Dean Jones, during this period, Mbeumo’s determination to sign for United kept the possibility of the transfer alive, when hope was beginning to be lost, as he seemingly became involved in negotiations to keep his move afloat.

Mbeumo made it known very early on this summer that United were his preferred destination over signing for Tottenham or any other interested party, and even when his former manager, Thomas Frank, joined Spurs, he indicated that his only focus was playing at Old Trafford.

While it remains to be seen whether Brentford officially accept the offer, United will hope to secure their potential new star signing before the close of the week.
