Bryan Mbeumo has directly responded to Bruno Fernandes’ demand, Man Utd’s captain will be delighted

Bryan Mbeumo has directly responded to a demand made by Bruno Fernandes and Manchester United’s captain will be delighted by it.

Manchester United’s start to the season has been inconsistent, with only one victory from their opening four matches.

In the Premier League, there have been glimpses of promise, most notably against Arsenal and Burnley, but the Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town was a major setback.

Head coach Ruben Amorim will be aiming for significant improvements when his side resumes action after the international break.

Bryan Mbeumo is one of the players who has impressed so far. He has scored two goals and also set up United’s goal against Fulham with a terrific cross into the box.

Fernandes’ demand to United teammates

At the end of last season, United captain Bruno Fernandes made a clear demand to his teammates while he was in terrific form.

Despite ending the season with 19 goals and 19 assists, the club captain explained how he wants other players to take charge and attention, as that will mean the team is performing better overall.

“I hope next year I am not even involved in the name [of Player of the Year] – and do the same season as I did this year, and not be involved in the name of winning that trophy.

“Because that will mean you [Joshua Zirkzee] step up, Amad will step up, Garnacho will step up, Rasmus will step up… if they start scoring goals, start doing assists, start running backwards and tackling, they will be the ones having attention and not me, and I will be the most happy person in the world.”

While two of those players – Højlund and Garnacho – have departed the club, new addition Mbeumo is taking on the responsibility that Fernandes wanted from others.

Mbeumo has responded to Fernandes’ demands

Mbeumo has been named United’s Player of the Month for August, after getting over 50 per cent of the overall votes ahead of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.

Bruno Fernandes had won the previous four Player of the Month awards at United after ending the last campaign strongly, but as he said, he wants others to step up.

Mbeumo is already showing that he is a player who can meet those demands. Matheus Cunha is another who Fernandes will feel can take on extra responsibility.

When Fernandes struggled last term – or even over the last five years – United played poorly and usually lost. Now, he will be hoping that the likes of Cunha and Mbeumo can get Amorim’s side over the line in games where he isn’t standing out.
