Bruno Fernandes highlights Rúben Amorim trait Erik ten Hag never had, it cost his Manchester United job
Bruno Fernandes has highlighted a trait Rúben Amorim has that Erik ten Hag never displayed, and it cost him his Manchester United job.
Rúben Amorim has taken over as Manchester United’s head coach, following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal after a disappointing run of form.
Ten Hag was sacked late last month after United’s struggles left them 14th in the Premier League and 21st in their Europa League group, a situation that demanded immediate change.

Although Amorim has been appointed, delays linked to his release clause have postponed his debut. He is set to lead the team for the first time on Sunday, 24 November, when United travel to face Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
In the interim, Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped in as caretaker manager, guiding the team to three wins and a draw. He has since left his role to allow Amorim’s new backroom staff to take charge at Carrington.
Amorim’s successful trait
After training under Amorim for a few days, club captain Bruno Fernandes interviewed with Sky Sports to assess the opening days under the new head coach.
Aside from the tactical elements, Fernandes chose to highlight Amorim’s ability to communicate ideas with his players, explaining that his demands are always very clear.
“It’s really direct, what he wants, what he demands, and we just have to follow the rules,” Fernandes explained. “I think communication was part of his success and I think he’s really good at that.”
“The manager pointed out some things he thinks need to be changed by us, and we have to follow that.
“Obviously not everyone starts, not everyone plays, but everyone’s going to be involved, and he wants everyone to feel the same attention and the same desire to win.”
Fernandes continued: “It’s still the beginning but obviously you can see already what he’s about, how much intensity he wants to put in every training session. But then him and his staff are really strict, but at the same time open.”
Ten Hag’s biggest issue
Once it was announced that Ten Hag had faced the chopping block at United, multiple reports detailed that communication was an apparent fault in his managerial process at the club.
It was detailed across the media that United players often felt they did not properly understand Ten Hag’s vision and instructions, leaving them somewhat dumbfounded.
This led to United often capitulating on the field this campaign, with players unable to understand what their manager wants at the club, and eventually his head rolled as a consequence.
However, with Amorim clearly gifted in communication, the players will no doubt be able to understand the instructions they are given more comprehensively, which will do wonders for the new boss during his early days at United.
