Bruno Fernandes has revealed the details of a Premier League meeting after a ‘disgraceful’ decision during Manchester United’s defeat to Arsenal.
Manchester United dominated for large spells against Arsenal but ultimately fell to defeat after Riccardo Calafiori headed home the winner.
Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha were United’s brightest performers, with the latter denied what looked like a clear penalty as poor refereeing continues to plague the new campaign.
That wasn’t the only controversial decision of the game, however, as Arsenal went onto score yet another questionable set-piece goal.
William Saliba was involved as he clearly backed into Altay Bayındır and was grabbing his arm. The goalkeeper should have still be stronger and some fans labelled him as ‘disgraceful’.
Fernandes reveals details of Premier League meeting after ‘disgraceful’ moment
The way which Arsenal scored was no surprise. They used that exact tactic throughout the entirety of last season.
But there was some surprise this time around as there have been talks that the Premier League will clamp down on those kind of moments inside the box.
In fact, Bruno Fernandes revealed after the game that the officials had a meeting with United’s squad this summer to explain that change. He suggested that it was ‘more of a saying’ than them actually implementing it.
“When you touch the goalkeeper and he can’t jump, that makes it difficult for [Altay] Bayindir,” the Portuguese midfielder told Sky Sports.
“We know in the Premier League they don’t give much. Even if they had a meeting with us saying that they will whistle more if players block and don’t look at the ball but it is more of a saying but doesn’t really go into the game.”
Premier League referees are awful
While that situation was frustrating, it was the late foul on Cunha from Saliba which dumbfounded supporters.
The French centre-back clearly fouled the Brazilian inside the box but VAR did not even seem to check the situation.

These two controversial decisions come after a handful of others on the opening weekend, which included a clear red card being overlooked in the Liverpool game.
It is a new season but the standard of the officials remains at rock bottom and it is simply frustrating.
