Manchester United took victory against Chelsea at Old Trafford; Bruno Fernandes had heavy praise for one star after the game.
Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro helped Manchester United to their second win of the season, and their second home win in a row after a 3-2 victory against Burnley before the international break.
Rúben Amorim will be pleased with the three points, even if United benefited from an early red card in the opening five minutes of the Old Trafford encounter.
While 10-man Chelsea put up a good fight, the Red Devils lost a man themselves before the half-time mark, with Casemiro booked for a second yellow card offence after a foul on Joao Pedro.
Losing the Brazilian cost United a goal late on in the game – with Trevoh Chalobah netting it from not far out – but it wasn’t enough to cost Amorim’s side all three points.
Fernandes praises Mbeumo after Chelsea performance
Several Red Devils stars impressed for United, but Bruno Fernandes ensured he praised Bryan Mbeumo after another good performance from the former Brentford forward.
In the hours after the game, Mbeumo – who was described as “really good” by Matthijs de Ligt – took to social media and said: “Big mentality and big win today! Thanks for the fans again”.
Fernandes was quick to sing his praises for the new signing, simply saying: “What a player”. Patrick Dorgu and Diogo Dalot were keen to show their thoughts as well: both commented with a heart and clapping hands emoji.
Mbeumo was crucial to United’s win, showing his versatility throughout the game. He played as both an attacking midfielder and centre forward, before making way in the latter stages of the clash.
Mbeumo could form solid partnership with Šeško
While Cunha and Mason Mount returned to the bench, Benjamin Šeško led the line and came close to netting his first goal after a great ball from Dorgu.
The Slovenian was withdrawn at half time for Manuel Ugarte – due to Casemiro’s red card – but again showed signs of why Amorim signed him. A goal would do him the world of good.
Sanchez’s red card came from a brilliant flick by Šeško. He could use his aerial ability to form a good partnership with Mbeumo, while he is still finding his way in Manchester.
Altay Bayindir’s kicks often go high and long, meaning Šeško has the advantage over the defence with his ungodly jumping reach. If he can continue to win headers against centre-backs, he will do well in Manchester.
