Bruno Fernandes has approved of a ‘top class’ decision made at Manchester United which is set to help the club’s youth teams.
Manchester United’s youth teams have regularly been a spark of entertainment for supporters in recent years while the first-team haven’t been performing to standard.
The club’s Under-18s won the FA Youth Cup back in 2022, with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo playing in that side.
Two years later and the same age-group won three trophies in one season, with Adam Lawrence leading the young team into becoming such an exciting outfit.
Lawrence has now departed the club to look for opportunities elsewhere and it has been confirmed that Darren Fletcher will move into the role as lead coach for the Under-18s.
Fernandes majorly approves of “top class” United decision
Fletcher, 41, came through the Academy at United himself and managed to play for the first-team for 13 years before departing for West Brom in 2015.
After retiring from the game in 2019, the Scotland international returned to Old Trafford the following year as a coach for the Under-16s and was then promoted to become one of Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s first-team coaches several months later.
He would then become the club’s first technical director in March 2021 before being moved to role focused on the pathway for Academy players into the first-team last year.
With a desire to move into coaching, Fletcher is now excited to start working with the Under-18s and a video of his speech to the young players was posted by the club’s social media channels this week and Bruno Fernandes is someone who clearly approves of this decision.
“Top class as a person and a well deserved new role that suits him and will bring loads of success to the youth of the club,” Fernandes wrote on Instagram in response to the speech from Fletcher.
United sign two exciting youngsters
Fletcher will be working with some extremely talented players in the Under-18s, such as JJ Gabriel, but United are also striving to bring in talented young players into the club.
The Reds have already completed deals for Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik, two 18-year-old’s who are extremely talented. Leon is set to stay at the club and start off in the Under-21s, while Kana-Biyik has already moved on loan to Lausanne-Sport.
Meanwhile, it is being reported that United could also get a deal for 16-year-old talent Harley Emsden-James from Southampton and he would join Fletcher’s Under-18s group.
Seth Ridgeon and Tyrese Noubissie are two other 16-year-old players United are trying to sign, and they would likely enter the Scotsman’s squad as well if they join the club.
