Bruno Fernandes left unimpressed by two Man United teammates after Galatasaray draw
Bruno Fernandes was left unimpressed by two Manchester United teammates during their away draw against Galatasaray in the Champions League.
The Portuguese midfielder played an important part as United went 2-0 up in the opening 20 minutes of the game.
However, the team would then ultimately let a two-goal lead slip in the second half to draw the game, leaving their qualification hopes of knockout football extremely slim.
Despite the woes at the back, with Andre Onana making several mistakes, captain Fernandes was more frustrated that United didn’t take more chances at the other end of the pitch.
The game was ridiculously open and there were chances in transitional moments consistently, but Fernandes suggested that some players were not looking for the extra pass to ensure a better chance of scoring.
“We were on top twice and had far too many chances to score another goal. We were not clinical enough,” he told TNT Sports.
“Sometimes it is about finding another teammate who is free and not taking the chance yourself.”
In the latter stages of the game, we saw both Scott McTominay and Facundo Pellistri waste chances when there were passing options in better positions to score.
Pellistri particularly was guilty of this on several occasions as the young winger had his worst cameo for the club.
Fernandes ultimately believes that the team have not performed in Europe so far this season. With just one win out of five games, they have had more than enough chances to qualify from their group.
“What we have been doing in the Champions League is not enough,” he added. “We have to control games better; this isn’t the first game like this. We have to be smarter and manage the games better.”
