Brentford inform Manchester United of the exact fee they want for Bryan Mbeumo as £62.5m bid rejected

Manchester United are still in negotiations with Brentford as they look to secure the transfer of Bryan Mbeumo for Rúben Amorim.

Manchester United remain in talks over their second signing of the summer, with a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo edging closer.

Following the arrival of Matheus Cunha earlier this month, Rúben Amorim is eager to further strengthen his attack, though negotiations with Brentford for Mbeumo have been slow-moving.

United’s opening £55 million bid for the 25-year-old was turned down in early June, and a follow-up offer worth £55 million plus £7.5 million in add-ons has also been rejected.

Despite the setbacks, a move to Old Trafford is still expected to go through. Once completed, United will shift focus to player departures and continue their efforts to bring in a striker and midfielder ahead of the Premier League’s mid-August start.

Brentford inform United of their asking price for Mbeumo

While the two bids have so far been flat out rejected, there has been little in the way of an exact figure that Brentford are said to want.

Initially, reports stated that Brentford wanted a fee similar to the £62.5 million that United paid Wolverhampton Wanderers for Cunha; however, their second bid, which totals this amount including add-ons, has been rejected.

According to Sky Sports, Brentford have finally informed United that their asking price for Mbeumo is £65 million this summer.

However, alternative reports have suggested that the London club are happy with the £55 million base fee, but want his add-ons to reach around a total of £10 million, instead of the £7.5 million currently on offer.

United are holding firm with their valuations

In seasons past, United have been the victims of their negotiation faults, having overpaid for players such as Antony, André Onana, and Mason Mount in recent years.

However, as per many reports, United are willing to hold firm on their negotiations with Brentford and other clubs, warning that they are not willing to bend over backwards to secure their first-choice targets.

According to The Athletic, the player himself has informed both Brentford and the other interested party Tottenham Hotspur, that if he were to leave the club this summer, his only destination would be United, which gives the club leverage.

United remain hopeful that Mbeumo will join in time for the first day of pre-season training on 7 June, which gives the club just over a week to finalise a transfer fee, process his signing, and register him ahead of the opening day at Carrington.
