Reflecting on Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, Gary Lineker gave his opinion on one of the club’s main targets that they are confident of signing next summer.
Manchester United returned to winning ways at the weekend, responding to their shock 1-0 loss to Everton with a hard-fought victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Despite falling behind in the first half, the Reds rallied after the break, with goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount sealing all three points.
Rúben Amorim’s side now sit seventh in the Premier League, though only four points separate them from Manchester City in second place.
With a favourable run of fixtures on the horizon, United will hope to build momentum and strengthen their position in the table.
Gary Lineker impressed by Adam Wharton’s performance
Adam Wharton has been linked with a move to Manchester United ever since he emerged as one of the most exciting talents in the league, with the 21-year-old midfielder expected to leave at the end of this Premier League campaign.
In the first half against Man United, Wharton won the most tackles with three, completed the most passes of any Crystal Palace player with 17, and won the most duels out of any player with four.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Gary Lineker was very impressed with the midfielder’s performance in what was a dominant first-half for Crystal Palace.
“Palace were very good in the first,” he said. “I’ll tell you, Adam Wharton, oh my, boy, he can play.”
Man Utd confident on signing Wharton if they meet one condition
As reported by The Mirror, United are joined by a host of clubs that are interested in Adam Wharton after bursting onto the scene, with previous reports stating the player is a ‘dream’ target for the club.
After failing to secure a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, United have now made the Palace midfielder one of their main targets next summer, as they look to address their midfield, which needs depth.
However, the outlet reports that, while the 21-year-old favours a move to the north west, he won’t leave Palace to join The Reds if they have no European football to offer, with Wharton ready to take the next step to a bigger club, and play on the biggest stages.
As the club has no European football to contend with this season, their full focus can be put on the league and give themselves the best chance of securing Europa League or Champions League football next season, and be able to attract the biggest names.
