Bournemouth have handed Manchester United a massive boost in the race for Antoine Semenyo as they drop his price tag this summer.
Manchester United will make strides to rebuild under Portuguese boss Ruben Amorim this summer. The Reds’ shocking domestic campaign has seen them drop to 16th place in the Premier League and knocked out of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
United’s main priority for recruitment is in the attacking line, as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed to lead the line this season, with both players having low returns in front of goal.
Due to United’s desperate need for attacking flair, Old Trafford has emerged as one of the likely destinations for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, who has had an eye-catching season.
Semenyo has been a standout player under Andoni Iraola, notching 18 goal involvements this season including scoring against Amorim’s United last month.
Man United told new Antoine Semenyo price tag
According to FootballInsider, the two clubs monitoring Semenyo closest, United and Newcastle, have been updated with the asking price for the Bournemouth forward.
Bournemouth are set to make large profits on the sale of the winger having brought him to the Vitality Stadium for a packaged £10.5m from Bristol City. The winger penned a new deal last summer, tying him to the club until June 2029.
The Ghana international is expected to attract an auction-like bidding war this summer. Still, Bournemouth will only consider offers of £50-60 million or more, which is lower than their previously reported asking price of £70 million.
Semenyo is expected to be one of the players set to depart Bournemouth this summer, with the club needing to comply with profit and sustainability rules.
Which United forwards could make way for Semenyo?
Too often this season, United have relied on captain Fernandes for goals, and they may need more recruits to bolster their scoring tally.
Antony has found form away from Old Trafford with Real Betis and has attracted interest from a plethora of clubs.
The FootballInsider report has revealed that the expected fee for Antony’s sale this summer is between £20-30 million, although other reports have stated United will be hoping they can grab between £35-40 million for the winger this summer.
Jadon Sancho is expected to leave if he returns from Chelsea. However, the Englishman has failed to perform at his second top-flight club in England and has lost the faith of both fans due to social media disasters and poor performances.
Despite this, Chelsea are reportedly prepared to pay a £5 million penalty not to sign him, as a proposed £25 million was agreed in a loan-to-buy deal.
