Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has embarrassed Erik ten Hag with his post-match comments on Manchester United after his side’s 3-0 victory.

The Reds were second-best all evening at Old Trafford and deserved their loss at Old Trafford.

Bournemouth opened the scoring early on, and whilst United seemed to take control of the game afterwards, it appeared to be something that the visitors were expecting and looking to take advantage of.

Iraloa’s side were clinical on the break as they turned their one-goal lead into three mid-way through the second half.

The Spanish manager explained after full-time that he knew that his team would be able to attack large spaces on the break due to the amount of players United throw forward in attack.

Scott McTominay is the club’s top goalscorer but is positioned as the second-deepest midfielder on paper. United were often without the Scotsman or Bruno Fernandes in defensive transitional moments, with Sofyan Amrabat usually isolated in and out of possession.

“They send a lot of players forward so you will get spaces. In this kind of open game when you know there will be chances for both games, we spoke at half-time and needing more goals if we want to win,” said Iraloa.

“When you send so many threats, it’s a matter of numbers, you have situations to attack 2-v-2, 3-v-2, 3-v-3, we were good in these moments. We knew they would make our wingers run backwards, but we knew when we could recover high, our forwards would have space.

“We knew in transitions we would have our chances and we took them.”

The approach from Ten Hag was picked apart from the travelling team. Whilst McTominay’s goals have helped United win points this season, there are always clear gaps to exploit, and that’s exactly what Bournemouth did.
