Borussia Dortmund looking to sign Man Utd star after contract end as club confirm no new terms

Borussia Dortmund are rumoured to be keeping tabs on one Manchester United star whose contact expires at the end of the season.

Manchester United have several players whose contracts with the club come to an end in the summer, prompting the Reds to make big decisions ahead of next season.

Some of these players consist of former captain Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, No. 18 Casemiro. and Goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

When it comes to the Brazilian international, the club has a 12-month option they can trigger on his contract. However, this option appears unlikely, given the 33-year-old’s wages, which are among the highest in the Premier League.

Reports have suggested that Malacia is set to leave Old Trafford in the summer, with some even suggesting his departure may be sooner, while Heaton saw his deal extended last summer with his influence around Carrington incredibly useful for the squad.

Another player who is out of contract soon is Jadon Sancho, whose spent this campaign with Aston Villa, his season-long loan not exactly what he hoped for.

Sancho’s return to the Bundesliga

While Sancho may not have attracted interest from many English sides, reports suggest the winger has piqued his former club’s interest.

According to Fichajes, Borussia Dortmund are looking to help the Englishman make his return to the Bundesliga as a free agent when his contract expires. Sancho left the German side for United back in 2021 and has since returned on loan during the second half of the 2023/24 season.

During his loan, he helped the club reach the Champions League final, but he was unfortunately unable to lift the trophy after Real Madrid scored 2 goals at Wembley Stadium that evening.

After his return to Dortmund, Sancho returned to the Premier League, spending last season with Club World Cup champions Chelsea. Although the loan deal included an obligation to buy, the London side paid £5m to escape the agreement.

United are said to be “not considering any renewal” for the forward’s contract, eager to see the players departure.

Last summer, Serie A giants Juventus and AS Roma were interested in Sancho; however, his wages led the clubs to lower their interest, as Sancho did not want to lower his.

Villa’s in charge now

After Chelsea refused to make Sancho a permanent addition at Stamford Bridge, United were left with the option that he would have to remain at the club to meet his high wage demands; however, interest from Unai Emery saw Sancho out on his second consecutive loan spell.

It is reported that Villa are currently covering 80 per cent of Sancho’s wages. Despite United’s desire to have him completely off their books not met, with United pushing the Villains to sign Sancho permanently for around £21 million, the club still pays the vast majority of his wages.

ManchesterWorld have shared that the two clubs have agreed on bonuses during Sancho’s loan that will then help to cover the entirety of his wage by the end of the season.

Sancho is set to leave the Red Devils as a free agent, with former club Dortmund ready to welcome him back, with his time at the club memorable.

Sancho’s wages seem to be the only potential block to this deal; however, whatever happens with the player, United will not need to be involved in any discussions.
