Bizarre Manchester United rumour rubbished as club “confident” of surprise signing
A bizarre rumour surrounding Manchester United target Chido Obi Martin has been rubbished, with the club “confident” of completing the surprise signing from Arsenal.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team are dedicated to assembling a young Manchester United squad and are on the verge of signing another exceptionally talented teenager.
Chido Obi Martin, one of the nation’s most promising prospects, couldn’t reach a scholarship agreement with Arsenal and is now exploring new opportunities.
Academy Scoop initially reported that Obi Martin visited Carrington to discuss a possible transfer to Manchester United this summer.
The social media journalist has since confirmed that United are “confident” of completing a deal for the talented 16-year-old.
Since then, a bizarre article has come out from AllNigeriaSoccer, which claims that United ‘gladly’ offered Obi-Martin £30,000 per week – double what he was supposedly being offered by Arsenal.
And pigs can fly. It’s ludicrous to think that INEOS would sanction such a number for a 16-year-old. Kobbie Mainoo is currently on less than that.
Sky Sports have since clarified that Obi-Martin’s decision to depart Arsenal was not financially motivated.
It was explained that a contract was agreed with the London-based club, but Obi-Martin wanted to move on due to doubts over his potential pathway into the first team and the club’s project.
He feels his career development would be best served elsewhere, with the report adding that United are one of several clubs in talks to potentially sign him, facing strong competition from clubs in the Bundesliga.
United have shown their ability to bring through young players even during difficult times for the club. Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are the main examples in the last two years.
Meanwhile, Toby Collyer and Harry Amass look set for first-team involvement next term.
