“I don’t need to convince him…” – Bernardo Silva sends Man United transfer warning over key target
Bernardo Silva has sent Manchester United a warning over Joao Neves, a key summer transfer target, while on international duty with Portugal.
With the domestic season over, some of Manchester United‘s players have travelled across the globe to join up with their national sides. However, for many fans, the end of the season signals the start of the transfer window.
At Old Trafford, transfer rumours are starting to heat up, with outlets from Portugal claiming that United have already tabled an offer of around £51 million for Benfica sensation Joao Neves rejected.

With Casemiro seemingly on his way and the future of Scott McTominay unclear, it seems as if the 18-year-old midfielder is a priority signing for United this summer.
Neves is attracting interest from across Europe with his stellar performances for his club and country, and Manchester City’s Portuguese winger Bernardo Silva has sent United a warning about Neves, advising the youngster to pick City over Old Trafford.
“I’d tell him to go to Manchester City,” Siva told the press on Friday afternoon. “It’s not easy. He’s a player who, given his success last season, has many clubs wanting him. As a Portuguese, and a player I like, I’d like to see him alongside me. But I want the best for him.”
Further, Silva was asked if he would “convince” Pep Guardiola to sign Neves, to which he said that it would not take convincing considering Neves’ talents.
“Guardiola? I don’t need to convince him. João Neves is already convincing because of the way he works and the energy he brings to the game.
“He won’t be a cheap player. It won’t be easy for many clubs to get in on the act. Let him make his decision; let it be what’s best for him. If he keeps up this energy, he has a very good future ahead of him.”
Bruno Fernandes himself has been full of praise for Neves whenever he is asked for his opinion on the 18-year-old. The United captain has previously stated he believes Neves is ready for the “big jump” to a top team.
“I don’t know if United rumours are true, but I know he is ready for that big jump. I would love to have him at United. But it’s Joao’s choice… He has top quality,” Fernandes told Sport TV last year.
“He is an excellent player, and he’s with the national team… that’s also why the big clubs are after him.”
