Benjamin Šeško’s agent has explained why the striker’s move to Manchester United was inevitable, despite earlier links to Arsenal this summer.
Manchester United have finally secured their new first-choice striker as Benjamin Šeško signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford.
Rúben Amorim’s side agreed on a transfer fee of £66.3 million that could rise to around £74 million with add-ons, securing the player who scouts across the globe have highly coveted.
Šeško is United’s fourth signing of the summer, joining Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, and Bryan Mbeumo, all joining Amorim’s ranks as he continues to rebuild the side from scratch.
United are still hunting for a new midfielder and a possible goalkeeper, but signing a new striker provides a huge boost ahead of the coming campaign.
United has always been Šeško’s dream
Earlier this summer, it looked likely that Šeško would join Arsenal, with former Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres heading to Old Trafford; however, the two moves have panned out in opposite fashion.
However, the 22-year-old’s agent, Elvis Basanovi, had conducted a fresh interview in the aftermath of Šeško’s move, explaining that although it’s hard to say why his move to Arsenal never materialised, the striker’s primary wish was always to sign for United.
“It’s hard to say exactly,” Basanovi said on a recent talk show. “Whenever a deal does not go through, there are always several other factors. In the end, everything has to align for it to happen.
“What’s important here is that Benjamin’s wish, for years now, has always been Manchester United, and for United, he was even willing to take a wage cut to make the move happen. As his agent, I wanted to make that wish come true.”
Šeško’s move has been years in the making
While United’s interest in Šeško appeared relatively late in the window, once it became clear that Gyökeres and Liam Delap were out of reach, the move seems to have been in the making for over seven years.
According to Basanovi, he and his client first visited United’s Academy in 2018, when Šeško was 15, and the vision since that day has been for Šeško to develop elsewhere and then join United when he was ready for the Premier League.
“We visited Manchester United’s academy back in 2018, when Benjamin was just 15,” The agent continued. Even then, we were planning this move for the future.
“At the time, we didn’t want him to go so young, [but] in recent years, we stayed in contact.
“But we told them our plan – two years in the Bundesliga to prepare for the future in the Premier League. We’re delighted the plan worked.”
