Benjamin Šeško sends encouraging message to Manchester United fans, it has lead to direct comparison

Benjamin Šeško showed a sign of a good mentality in an Instagram post after netting his first Manchester United goal in his side’s 3-1 loss to Brentford

Manchester United entered the summer transfer window with a clear priority to transform a forward line that managed to score just 44 goals in the Premier League last season.

With Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo having already signed, Benjamin Šeško was the final piece in the puzzle, signing for a fee of £74 million after being monitored by United for several years.

Widely regarded as one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe, his start to life at Old Trafford was challenging, as he played a total of 80 minutes across the opening three games while adapting to the physicality of the league.

The Slovenian’s maiden United goal finally came in the 3-1 defeat to Brentford, when Šeško halved the deficit with a scrappy effort.

Šeško’s message after Brentford defeat

The defeat away at Brentford was the first time that the new-look front three of Cunha, Mbeumo and Šeško started together, and while there were some positive signs, United’s defensive frailty was what overshadowed the game.

Taking to Instagram after the game, the 22-year-old striker reflected on his first goal for the club, while also showing signs of an excellent mentality.

He said: “My first Premier League goal, but I’d swap it straight away for 3 points. Very unhappy with yesterday’s result, but no doubt we’ll bounce back. We are Manchester United.”

With United’s next league fixture coming when they host newly promoted Sunderland next Saturday, Šeško will be looking to build on his first goal and take that momentum into the international break.

Comparisons between Šeško and Rasmus Højlund

When Šeško’s signing was announced, it was easy to notice the comparisons between the Slovenian and Rasmus Højlund, who failed to live up to expectations in his two-season stint at Old Trafford, leaving to join Napoli on loan with a £38 million obligation to buy.

Both young strikers were brought in for sizeable fees, and were both rated as promising up-and-coming forwards before making the switch to United.

Despite being the same age, the Danish forward was much more of a raw talent before making the switch from Serie A to the Premier League, with Šeško also being the more experienced player, having featured prominently for RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg.

While their skills can be debated, the Slovenian striker has seemingly already shown better mentality than the now-Napoli striker. Towards the end of last season, Højlund scored against Bournemouth to end a seven-game goal drought, and took to Instagram to say: “We wanted the win, but I needed that.”

Despite scoring his first goal for United, Šeško’s main focus is securing three points for his side, rather than personal achievements, something that Ruben Amorim will be pleased to see.
