“Been and gone…” Club urged not to sign Manchester United star who’s unhappy with Erik ten Hag

Ajax have been urged to avoid re-signing Christian Eriksen from Manchester United this summer, despite unhappiness at Old Trafford.
Christian Eriksen‘s second season at Manchester United has not gone quite to plan. The Danish international was reduced to a secondary role due to the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo.
After signing for United for free from Brentford in 2022, Eriksen formed a fantastic trio alongside Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, but this quickly dissipated after he suffered an ankle injury in January 2023. He has not been able to rediscover his previous form since, and following Mainoo’s emergence in the team, he has barely seen any action.

“I have previously stated that I am not satisfied with not playing, but it’s not something that keeps me up at night,” Eriksen admitted in March.
“The team is performing, and I must respect the role you have alongside. For my part, it has been about working hard and focusing on being fresh for every game, and I am. It is easier now to accept my role than it would have been before.
“I have had a conversation with Erik about being unhappy with the situation and wanting to play as much as possible, but I am available and need to be available for the team, which I am and always will be.
“He said it was the team he had chosen, and Kobbie is doing well, and the rest of the midfield is also performing well, so there is competition for places, which is expected when playing for a top club. There is great competition within the team.
“Of course, you can be concerned in the long run because I want to play as much as possible. Naturally, you don’t want to always sit on the bench. I don’t have that approach to it, but it’s not something that worries me right now.
“Often, when you change teams and win, you don’t change the winning team, and I respect that.”
With Eriksen clearly unhappy with his role at Old Trafford, it looks like he will almost certainly depart. There have been tenuous links to his former club, Ajax, but the Eredivisie side has been warned against the potential signing.
Dutch journalist Valentijn Driessen has warned Ajax against bringing back the veteran midfielder due to his lack of impact at United despite all their injuries.
“Manchester United had 120,000 injuries, and he was mainly on the bench,” he said. “He doesn’t get a chance at number eight in the Premier League, so what is your point in the Netherlands?
“You want to continue to grow, and then you should no longer be in the Eriksen category. He was a very good player, but that has been and gone.”
