“He says…” Bayern Munich chief confirms Mathys Tel transfer claim amid Manchester United interest
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that Mathys Tel wants to leave the Bundesliga club amid interest from Manchester United.
Manchester United are set to prioritise attacking reinforcements as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle for goals.
United’s lack of firepower has been a persistent issue this season, with the team rarely scoring more than once in a match. Their home form at Old Trafford has been particularly disappointing, raising further concerns.
With uncertainty surrounding the futures of Joshua Zirkzee, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho, strengthening the forward line has become a pressing need ahead of the summer transfer window.
Despite financial restrictions, Amorim is expected to push the board to invest in new attacking talent to address United’s goal-scoring woes and provide a much-needed boost to their frontline.
Bayern chief confirms Tel transfer stance
United have been linked with Bayern Munich star forward Mathys Tel should United let go of one of Garnacho or Rashford this month.
Tel started and played 62 minutes for Bayern against Slovan Bratislava, where the Bundesliga outfit won 3-1, however, amid the Frenchman starting, Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl confirmed the player had asked to leave.
“We spoke in December, and Mathys said he wanted to establish himself,” Eberl said.
“Now he says he wants to leave (…) There’s no bad blood. I can understand him. I’ve rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before.”
Tel wants to sign for United
As mentioned by Eberl, there are many clubs who have enquired about the player, one of those being Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

But, according to reports earlier this week, Tel is said to prefer a move to United over North London.
Tel would be a good fit under Amorim should one of Rashford or Garnacho leave before the end of the window, as he is more comfortable playing inside compared to the aforementioned pair.
Amorim needs attacking reinforcements, and the French 19-year-old is a raw but talented player who would inject much-needed dynamism to the front line.
