Barcelona have an option to buy Marcus Rashford from Manchester United for £30 million next summer as they look to secure the forward on loan.
Marcus Rashford is one of five Manchester United players expected to leave the club this summer after new manager Rúben Amorim decided he is not part of his plans.
United are now into their second week of pre-season training, with new arrivals Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon continuing to adapt to their new surroundings and teammates.
Rashford, along with Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho, has been instructed to stay away from first-team sessions while they pursue moves away from Old Trafford. However, they have been allowed to use the training facilities individually after 5pm.
Although Rashford scored Amorim’s first goal in charge and followed it up with a brace against Everton, the pair’s relationship quickly deteriorated, with the manager reportedly questioning the forward’s effort in training.
After a productive loan spell at Aston Villa, where he scored four goals and registered six assists in 17 games, Rashford is now reportedly targeting a move to Barcelona.
Barcelona can sign Rashford for £30 million next summer
As per multiple reports, Barcelona are closing in on securing Rashford from Old Trafford on a one-year loan deal with an option to buy the player next summer.
It has been widely reported that Rashford will be taking a significant wage cut to join the Catalan outfit, whom he views as his dream destination.
According to the Spanish outlet Marca, United have agreed that Barcelona will be given the option to sign the English winger permanently for around £30 million next summer.
It was further reported that United initially wanted around £43 million for the player next summer, but Barcelona managed to reduce this amount.
Rashford’s exit saves United millions
United agreeing to such a low fee for next summer is a surprise, but it makes a little more sense when you take into account the wage package they will not be dishing out.
According to transfer expert David Ornstein, Barcelona will cover the player’s entire wage for the next 12 months, saving United around £15 million in salary and tax.
This will free up significant funds for Amorim and United, and the low buy option will increase the chances of Barcelona signing the England international on a permanent basis next summer.
After 426 appearances and 138 goals, Rashford’s spell at Manchester United is coming to a close.
