Barcelona make new proposal for Marcus Rashford following “pretty much agreed” comments

Barcelona have proposed a new deal to Manchester United for Marcus Rashford on different terms than the initial loan and buy option previously agreed.

Marcus Rashford has found himself again in the red and blue of Barcelona on loan from Manchester United following a frosty feud with former manager Ruben Amorim.

The forward has been a versatile option for the Catalan club, proving to be a valued asset as they lead the way in La Liga and face Newcastle United in the Champions League Round of 16.

The England international has already hit double figures in both goals and assists for Barca this season, deservedly grabbing the attention of the club, as the possibility of making the move permanent grows.

United initially loaned out the 28-year-old to the Spanish giants with a buy option of £26 million in the summer, but Barca have approached United with a new deal to suit their financial situation to keep Rashford on different terms, despite having a deal “pretty much agreed.”

Barcelona propose second loan deal for Rashford

According to TalkSPORT, Barcelona sporting director Deco has proposed a second loan deal to keep Rashford in Spain and to give the club more financial freedom.

The two clubs have had multiple face-to-face meetings since the start of the new year – initiated by Barca to negotiate a new structure to eventually make the deal for Rashford permanent – but the Red Devils are insistent on the £26 million price tag, which they believe is a great value signing.

Deco’s idea of a second season-long loan would give Barca more time to pay off the fee, whilst still totalling the same value over the course of the entire deal.

Barca manager Hansi Flick has already made the club aware that keeping Rashford is a priority of his come the summer transfer window, and United remain confident that the initial asking price will be met.

United prefer immediate fee

United have made a strong case for Champions League football this season, which should see the club’s number of games played next season increase significantly.

The Red Devils need to invest in their squad depth to uphold the standard of playing every three days rather than once per week. Selling Rashford alongside acquiring the fees from Rasmus Hojlund and potentially Jadon Sancho, who are also on loan this season, will greatly increase United’s financial capabilities in the summer.

The departure of Casemiro has already been announced, and players such as Manuel Ugarte and Tyrell Malacia seem unlikely to have a future at the club, so United must bring in more players to provide sufficient depth to keep up.

Injuries have already proven to be an issue at Old Trafford this season, with Mason Mount, Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu all being sidelined for significant portions of the season.

Meanwhile, United’s attention stays fixed on Rashford’s former club, Aston Villa, who make the trip up to Old Trafford on Sunday, also looking to secure a Champions League place.
