Barcelona keen on signing £120k-a-week Manchester United star next year, Hansi Flick is a ‘massive admirer’

Barcelona are keen on signing one of Manchester United’s players next year and their manager Hansi Flick is a massive admirer of them.

The summer transfer window closed earlier this week, and Manchester United ultimately managed to complete most of their planned business.

Goalkeeper Senne Lammens was brought in, while Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Højlund, and Antony all left the club.

Earlier in the window, United had already secured the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Šeško, and Diego Leon, but Ruben Amorim was still keen to add another goalkeeper to the squad.

The main disappointment of the summer was the lack of a new midfielder, particularly given the strong links to Carlos Baleba.

While all of the transfer business for the summer window is now complete, the rumours over the upcoming January window – and even the summer window next year – have begun.

The latest reports from Fichajes claim that Barcelona are keen on signing Lisandro Martínez from United next year.

It is believed that Hansi Flick is a massive admirer of the 27-year-old’s ball-playing ability in the defensive line, something that is a necessary quality to have as a defender at the Camp Nou.

Even though Flick’s dream defensive target is Alessandro Bastoni, he admires Martínez and Barcelona’s president Joao Laporta sees the Argentine as a more cost-effective option.

Martínez reportedly attracted interest this summer despite his long-term injury but he rejected any interest as he wants to stay at Old Trafford.

Martínez could leave United next summer

Martínez, who earns around £120,000-a-week, is United’s best left-sided centre-back when he is fully fit, and in the first months of Amorim’s reign the defender looked to relish the on-ball responsibilities given in his system.

Despite this, there could be some interest at Old Trafford next summer in letting him leave if clubs like Barcelona are still lining up, as long as the price is right.

Martínez has suffered several long-term injuries now and there will be question marks about those issues when he is back on the pitch. For some United fans, this is his last chance to have a long spell on the pitch.

It feels harsh as the Argentine’s injuries have mostly been unfortunate contact ones, rather than him pulling muscles all of the time, but there is a world where United are happy to sell him.

With the likes of Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven coming through as young defenders, the depth in that back three is probably one of United’s least concerning positions.
