Ayden Heaven makes international verdict following impressive Manchester United performances

Ayden Heaven has been among the best players at Manchester United in recent weeks, and international interest has now come calling.

Ayden Heaven is the name on every Manchester United fan’s lips after a man-of-the-match performance against Newcastle United. Ruben Amorim had nothing but praise for him, saying: “It is going to be really hard to take his place.”

Heaven also impressed in United’s 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers. His tackle led to Joshua Zirkzee’s goal in the first half, and United fans were left distraught when Amorim replaced Heaven early in the second half.

The young centre-back exemplifies United’s improved recruitment, a process overseen by Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada. At a cost of just £1.5 million, calling him a bargain does not do it justice – he was a steal.

Heaven was initially signed for the academy, but after impressing, he was promptly promoted to the first team. Injuries to Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt have fast-tracked his playing time in recent weeks. He is fleet-footed and fearless.

The old adage, “If you are good enough, you are old enough,” is synonymous with United, and he is certainly good enough.

Heaven’s international preference

Heaven has proudly donned the England shirt at Under-18, 19, and 20 levels, yet a senior call-up still eludes the talented centre-back.

Each appearance for England’s youth teams has showcased not only his technical skill but also his footballing intelligence – a player who reads the game like a seasoned professional. He is wise beyond his years.

The central defender also qualifies for Ghana through a grandparent, and the country’s FA have reportedly been monitoring his development. The English FA appear to have won the race, which represents a real coup.

They have helped nurture his talent. He is touted to become a cornerstone of England’s defence, perhaps quicker than first thought.

Ghana’s loss is England’s gain.

A tantalising possibility may await: if Heaven makes the World Cup squad, he could face Ghana – the nation of his heritage. This subplot would add a fascinating element to his international story, highlighting the unique dilemmas faced by players with dual eligibility.

Heaven an outsider for the World Cup?

If form is anything to go by, he may just be on the plane. The challenge, though, will likely lie in consistency and whether he can maintain the standards he is currently setting.

Since his appointment, Thomas Tuchel has evidently favoured youth over experience, which is something that will bolster Heaven’s chances.

Centre-back is a position where England have a plethora of options. As well as Heaven’s form, his composure could be the reason he forces his way into the England squad. He plays the game, not the occasion.

A banner in the Stretford End says, “Manchester is my heaven.” If he makes the squad, Ayden will be in heaven.
