Atletico Madrid on ‘red alert’ as £95m-rated Manchester United transfer “gaining strength”, club are “dreaming”
Atletico Madrid are said to be on ‘red alert’ to Alejandro Garnacho’s situation after Rúben Amorim left him out of Manchester United’s weekend Premier League squad.
Manchester United‘s recent Premier League win over Manchester City was, to some extent, overshadowed by the news that Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford had been left out of the squad.
Rúben Amorim chose not to play either player after he said he noted “small things” that were not up to standards with the pair, although he stressed that the decision was not motivated by any disciplinary action.

Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes went on to score two late goals as United secured a 2-1 victory, with those such as Manuel Ugarte and Lisandro Martínez praised for their stunning performances at the Etihad Stadium.
However, Rashford and Garnacho’s exclusions from the team have sparked debates about their futures, with the former said to available for £40 million in the summer.
Atletico Madrid on red alert
However, although Rashford has been the headline maker, a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes states La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have been alerted to the possibility of signing Garnacho in the summer.
Garnacho transferred from the Spanish side to United in October 2020, joining the Carrington youth system before making his debut at the club under Ralf Rangnick in 2021.
He has since gone on to make 110 appearances for the Reds, so far netting 23 goals and providing 13 assists in the process, including scoring the Premier League Goal of the Season against Everton last campaign.
The article mentions that Atleti are “dreaming” of resigning Garnacho in the summer, with manager Diego Simeone a big fan of the player and viewing him as a possible replacement for Antoine Griezmann.
As of November this year, Garnacho is said to have a transfer value of around £95 million.
Further, it’s stated that the possibility of a transfer is “gaining strength” following Amorim’s decision to leave the player out of the squad to face City just months after he scored the opening goal against them in the 2024 FA Cup final.
What Roy Keane thought about Amorim’s decision
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane praised Amorim for his decision, explaining that it proves the new head coach is laying his mark at Old Trafford.
“It is a big call,” the former midfielder told Sky Sports. “He has obviously seen something he doesn’t like.
“But for those who have watched Manchester United recently, it’s not a big surprise because both players have been poor. He has said ‘enough is enough’.”
“It’s a big call, but I like to see it – he has put down a marker.”
