“At the moment…” Fabrizio Romano provides clear update on Man Utd link to Alexis Mac Allister

Fabrizio Romano has spoken on the recent rumours linking Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister with a controversial move to bitter rivals Manchester United amid United’s summer spending spree.

Manchester United look almost certain to bring in at least one new addition to their midfield department when the summer transfer window swings around, and a list of targets is in the process of being made.

Michael Carrick’s side currently have a sufficient level of depth in their midfield, with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo all occupying a starting spot.

This, however, may be set to change next season, with the Reds looking very likely to earn a spot in a European competition, which would leave them short of numbers in the middle of the park.

United have been linked with a host of names ahead of the summer, including Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson, although a shock link to Alexis Mac Allister has recently emerged.

Romano rubbishes Mac Allister rumour

As reported by TEAMtalk, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest update regarding the recent links surrounding Mac Allister.

The Mirror originally reported that the Argentinian was a target of the Reds, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanting his signature if he was to become available.

Romano has spoken on United’s interest, stating that there is nothing concrete at this moment in time, despite them being in search of at least one new midfielder.

The Italian journalist said, “At the moment, with Alexis Mac Allister, there is nothing really advanced or concrete or started in terms of conversations.”

United’s potential midfield additions

The Reds currently have a few names on their midfield shortlist, with the likes of Sandro Tonali, Anderson and Baleba currently attracting United’s interest.

What remains clear is that, similarly to last summer, Carrick’s side are keen on sticking by their policy of recruiting players who have experience in the English top-flight.

This worked well for the Red Devils last summer, with both Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo already playing very crucial parts in their side’s recent run of form.

Although a move for Liverpool’s Mac Allister will likely never materialise, United will certainly recruit one, or maybe even two, new midfielders in the summer, ahead of what should be a far busier campaign.
