“At the moment…” Fabrizio Romano issues latest on Antony’s future after £50m Manchester United demand

Fabrizio Romano has provided a contradictory update on Antony’s situation, as recent reports suggested a bid from Al-Nassr had been made.

Since joining Manchester United in 2022, Antony has struggled to live up to his £85 million price tag and now looks to be heading for the exit.

The Brazilian winger failed to nail down a spot in Ruben Amorim’s squad last seaosn, which resulted in him being sent out on loan to Real Betis for the remainder of the campaign.

Antony was reborn in Betis, where he instantly became a fan favourite amongst the Spanish club’s fanbase. The 25-year-old achieved nine goals and five assists during his six-month loan.

Despite such impressive stats, it remains unlikely that Betis can afford the fee being asked by United for their man, which leaves Antony having to assess his options.

Amorim will be working with a smaller squad next campaign as he only has the Premier League to focus on, and Antony doesn’t seem to be part of his plans.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Antony situation

Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on his YouTube channel regarding Antony’s situation. This comes after recent reports suggesting that Al-Nassr had made a bid for the winger, and that United had responded by demanding around £50 million.

“From what I am told, my information is that Al-Nassr have not sent an official bid to Manchester United for Antony yet,” the transfer expert explained.

“So at the moment it is still no official bid, no advanced negotiation. It’s just a general conversation, just early stages, let’s say, but Antony has many options also in Europe.

“So in a World Cup year, it’s important for Antony to make a decision about that, and at the moment, from what I heard, Antony has not decided anything.

“Antony is not at the moment in advanced conversations with Al-Nassr, and also, according to my information, Al-Nassr have not sent an official bid to Manchester United, yet.”

Contradictory reports on Antony

As previously stated, recent reports from Brazil suggested that Al-Nassr had sent an offer for Antony’s services, to which United responded with a £50 million asking price.

The Saudi Arabian club have also just acquired Joao Felix from Chelsea, which would lessen their need for a player like Antony.
