AS Roma want to sign third Man Utd star despite Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia failures, he wants game time

One of Italy’s biggest clubs have grown interested in a Manchester United star amid his concerns surrounding his game-time at Old Trafford.

After a difficult start to the new season, Manchester United finally put together a quality team performance before the international break as they eased to a 2-0 victory over Sunderland.

Ruben Amorim’s side have struggled to get going in the new campaign, despite their summer spending, but will be hopeful that their recent victory over the Black Cats can be the catalyst that they need.

During the summer window, the Reds bought three new attackers to eradicate their goalscoring concerns, which has left Joshua Zirkzee struggling for game time.

Despite staying put over the summer, unlike former Red Rasmus Højlund, the Dutchman has mustered only 82 minutes for United this season.

Italian giants pursue Zirkzee

As reported by OneFootball, AS Roma are among the clubs that are growing interested in United’s out-of-favour striker, who the Reds purchased from Bologna for £37 million.

Zirkzee was a regular feature for United last season, although he struggled to find his feet, scoring only seven times across his 49 appearances.

It is being widely reported that the capital club of Italy will bolster their forward line in January, although they are waiting to see whether Artem Dovbyk or Evan Ferguson can hit form before purchasing a new striker.

The report also states that, with the World Cup next summer, Zirkzee will be eager to request a move, even temporarily, to try and play his way into the Netherlands side.

This comes not too long after Roma attempted to sign both Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia from United last summer, although neither move came to fruition.

Will Zirkzee leave United light?

If the Dutch forward was to potentially depart in January, the Reds could run the risk of being left light in the forward department, despite their recent acquisitions.

After seeing all of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Højlund part ways in the summer, a Zirkzee departure would leave the club with very few attackers.

With the Reds in pursuit of getting back into the European spots, it may be wise for them to try to keep as much depth as they can; otherwise, they will need to spend big when the summer comes.

It will be interesting to see if Zirkzee pushes for a move in the coming months or if Amorim is able to find a way to incorporate the Dutch striker into his plans.
