According to a new report, AS Monaco have emerged as shock favourites to land Marcus Rashford on loan this month as the player looks for a Manchester United exit.

Manchester United are keen to send Marcus Rashford out on loan in January after the 27-year-old revealed his desire to seek a new challenge.

Once the focal point of United’s attack, Rashford enjoyed a stellar 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23. However, his form has since declined, and under Rúben Amorim, he has fallen out of favour.

Amad and Bruno Fernandes have established themselves in key roles, while Rashford has been unused in United’s last nine matchday squads, making the bench just once in that time.

Rashford’s ties to the club stretch back nearly 20 years, beginning with his meteoric rise as an 18-year-old. His unforgettable debut saw him score twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, followed by another brace against Arsenal in the Premier League just days later.

United are reportedly ready to facilitate a loan move for Rashford in January, with a permanent transfer expected in the summer. His departure seems all but certain, signalling the end of an extraordinary era at Old Trafford as he looks ahead to the next chapter of his career.

AS Monaco potential favourites for Rashford loan

Rashford has been linked most prominently with Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan in the last three weeks, although the latter has pulled out of the race in favour of signing Kyle Walker.

However, a new report from The Sun, AS Monaco have emerged as potential favourites to secure the former England international on a six-month loan.

Although Rashford is said to prefer Barcelona, the La Liga side have not submitted any kind of formal offer, and United will be attracted to the Ligue 1 side’s interest as they would be willing to pay almost, if not all, of Rashford’s wages.

His current deal sits at above £300,000 a week, with no other club so far registering interest in paying a large portion of this.

Rashford could still stay at United

However, a further report from BBC Sport, Rashford remains open to staying at United and has not abandoned all hope of playing for the club again.

The BBC stated that sources close to the player is insistent that he would like to continue playing for United and that he has no significant issue with Amorim despite having not featured for United in almost a month.

Amorim was asked last week if he felt disappointed or let down that Rashford was not there to help his team, to which he replied, “No.”

When pressed for further comment, the 39-year-old explained: “Guys. It is his choice [not to play].

“I don’t want to focus on this bad moment because in the games we lost, Rashford is not here.

“I don’t want to put this moment on Rashford. Rashford is out of this moment because he is not playing.

“No matter what, I am not going to put out a player I don’t believe is the best for the team.”
