Arne Slot is in complete agreement with Ruben Amorim on “quality” Manchester United target

As Ruben Amorim’s first season in charge of United draws to a close, and the summer transfer window gets set to open, Liverpool boss Arne Slot offers his honest view of one of the Red Devils’ top targets.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes that Manchester United will be signing a “quality player” in Matheus Cunha if they are able to purchase the forward.

The Brazilian has had an impressive campaign with Wolverhampton Wanderers, gaining 18 goals and assists in 28 games despite the club’s lacklustre season in the bottom half of the table.

This season, Cunha has made no secret of his ambition to leave Molineux, stating on a now-deleted Instagram post that he intends to “follow my dreams.”

Many of the top Premier League clubs are said to be interested in the striker, with United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa all said to be expressing interest in his services.

Slot and Amorim in agreement

Back in February, Slot was asked about the Wolves forward, saying, “Matheus Cunha is a quality player. He has the quality to play for one of the top five teams in England.

If you go to the Dutch league and look at the team in 17th place, there is no player who could play for Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord.”

A matter of days after Slot’s words, Cunha found the net at Molineux, but was still on the losing side, as goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah secured a 2-1 victory.

Since then, Amorim has also been quizzed about the forward, with the United gaffer agreeing with Slot’s assessment of the striker.

In his press conference before United’s 1-0 defeat to Wolves, Amorim said: “He [Vítor Pereira] has some really quality players, [Matheus] Cunha, all these guys have real quality.”

Can Amorim secure his man?

It is understood that Cunha’s representatives welcomed United’s interest, which could potentially see his salary doubled to £180,000 per week.

Reports from the Manchester Evening News claim United are interested in the Wolves man, as well as Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

However, for this to be feasible, the club would have to sell some of their current forwards, with on-loan stars such as Marcus Rashford and Antony tipped to be among those departing.

The Red Devils are in desperate need of some quality attacking options, with the club set to finish with a negative goal difference for the second consecutive Premier League campaign.

It’s understood that Cunha has a £62.5 million release clause in his deal with the Midlands club.
