Antony “delighted” with January transfer move following Fabrizio Romano confirmation
Antony is reportedly “delighted” with his move to Real Betis in the January window, and he’s likely played his final game for Rúben Amorim at Manchester United.
Manchester United are looking to offload several players during the January transfer window as they aim to boost cash flow ahead of an important summer.
Rúben Amorim’s side started 2025 positively, earning a draw against Liverpool, defeating Arsenal on penalties in the FA Cup, and securing a 3-1 win over Southampton, thanks to a sensational 12-minute hat-trick from Amad. However, a 3-1 defeat to Brighton has dampened the mood.
Despite their need for reinforcements at left-back, in midfield, and in attack, United’s transfer activity has been slow so far.
Amorim has expressed his desire to keep the core of his squad intact, but the club are prepared to part with several players before the window shuts, with most departures likely to be on loan.
Antony’s move to Betis is confirmed
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, United winger Antony will now join Real Betis on loan for the remainder of the season.
Other reports have confirmed that the La Liga outfit will be paying less than 50% of his current £200,000 a week wage package, although his exit does allow United to focus on incomings before the end of the month.
Romano has explained that there is no option for Betis to buy the player at the end of the loan, meaning Antony will return to United in June ahead of the 2025/26 season, although he will likely find a new permanent home in the summer.
Antony will travel to Spain once all the final documents have been checked, and he will undergo a medical and sign his temporary contract with the outfit.
Antony delighted with Betis move
According to Relevo, Antony is “delighted” with his pending move to Real Betis, having turned down other options such as Villarreal last week.
Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini is said to be hoping that he can reignite Antony’s old form at Ajax, where he became a bright young Brazilian talent under Erik ten Hag.
After two and a half torrid seasons at Old Trafford, it feels as if Antony’s time at United has come to an end.
Betis have already seen Antony play first-hand when he scored against them in a 4-1 Europa League victory at Old Trafford in March 2023.
