Anthony Elanga’s transfer fee has been revealed, with Manchester United reportedly interested in re-signing the Nottingham Forest winger.
Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of different signings this summer, with Ruben Amorim looking to oversee a complete squad overhaul going into his first full season as United coach.
The attacking sector of the field has been the one that has been criticised most, with Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, and Alejandro Garnacho all underperforming and having the possibility of leaving in the summer.
United’s financial situation going into the summer is unpredictable, with the club’s spending power based almost entirely on how many players they will be able to offload this summer.
With United also finding themselves in the Europa League semi-final, the possibility of Champions League football is very much still there, another major player when it comes to players signing for the club
Elanga back to United?
Elanga has been one of Nottingham Forest’s best players this season, with the 22-year-old providing six goals and nine assists this season, as Forest battle for Champions League football next season
According to CaughtOffside, United are just one of a number of clubs that are interested in the Swede’s signature this summer, with several elite clubs also monitoring the situation.
While Nottingham Forest haven’t actively listed Elanga for sale, a fee in the region of £43 million could force the club to consider selling their winger.
At the same time, Forest are rumoured to be looking at the possibility of extending Elanga’s contract until 2030, with the club’s push for European football looking to be key in persuading stars like Elanga to extend their contract.
Have United been selling the wrong players?
Selling Elanga for just £15 million in July 2023, he joins a list of players that United have let go for cheap, only to be linked with them again but for an inflated fee, and it begs the question of what the selling strategy is at United.
In what was one of the most ludicrous sagas in transfer history, Paul Pogba left United in 2012 on a free, only to be signed back for £90 million four years later, to then leave on a free again, back to Juventus in 2022.
Players like Wilfried Zaha, Angel Gomes, and Alvaro Fernandez, to name a few, could have all had a part to play over the years at Old Trafford.
With United’s perilous financial situation, the talent at Old Trafford must be retained to develop there, rather than being sold elsewhere, where they can then be developed before being linked with a move back to United for an inflated fee.
