André Onana named signing of the season by former Premier League goalkeeper
André Onana’s £45 million Manchester United transfer has been tipped to become the signing of the season for 2023/24.
After David de Gea left Manchester United due to the expiry of his contract at the end of June, Erik ten Hag secured the signing of Cameroon goalkeeper André Onana.
In a move that is designed to continue to change the type of football the Dutch manager wants to play, Onana has played in all three of United’s Premier League games so far.

With the change in the guard of the Old Trafford goals taking place, former Premier League goalkeeper David James has sung the praises of André Onana.
“Regarding which player I believe will be the signing of the season, I’m going to go for André Onana,” James told GGRecon.
“I studied him last season and I just believe that he could completely transform Manchester United, even though I’ve backed them to finish sixth in the Premier League this season. I don’t believe their issues lie with the goalkeeper, it’s an outfield problem, so I believe that Onana will enhance Manchester United’s team.
“In a very paradoxical way, his improvement will highlight the failings that Manchester United have outfield.”
Onana has started life well at Manchester United, slipping straight into Erik ten Hag’s squad and has impressed so far.
