Amad has sent a clear message following his exit from AFCON as Manchester United have received a huge boost.
Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui all left Manchester United in mid-December to take part in the latest Africa Cup of Nations.
The trio made a positive start to the tournament and helped their respective nations reach the knockout stages. Amad was the standout performer, earning two Man of the Match awards during the group phase.
Mbeumo and Cameroon were among the pre-tournament favourites, but the United forward’s hopes of lifting the trophy ended on Friday evening as Cameroon were eliminated by Morocco.
Since then, Amad has also been knocked out with Ivory Coast after their quarter-final defeat to Egypt on Saturday evening.
Amad sends clear message following AFCON exit
Amad and Mbeumo are both set to be available for selection when United face rivals Manchester City next weekend, which will be a boost for whoever is in charge.
That game looks like the first for the new caretaker head coach, who looks set to be between Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
Amad has been the standout performer in a Manchester derby beforehand, winning a penalty and scoring a winner in a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium last season.
Reacting on Instagram after his AFCON exit, the Ivorian wrote: “Broken dream but very happy with the group we had. We will come back stronger than ever.”
Mbeumo and Amad returning
United have certainly missed having Mbeumo and Amad in the team but with the change of formation, it will be interesting how they fit into the team together.
Both players have proved that they can play on the left side or as a no.10, which could allow them to play together. Mbeumo has also operated as a no.9 at times and Benjamin Šeško will not start every game.
Right now, United could do with both of them back in the team and it would not be a surprise if someone like Matheus Cunha came out of the team so Amad and Mbeumo can both start.
