Amad Diallo shares message after Man United return in Nottingham Forest defeat
Amad Diallo returned to action for Manchester United during their 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening.
The winger has been unavailable for five months after a serious knee injury during a pre-season friendly against Arsenal.
He came on as a second-half substitute for underperformer Antony and made a positive impact despite the defeat.
Taking to social media after the game, Amad has shown his appreciation for those close to him during his rehabilitation and recovery.
The wide player also stated that United will ‘come back stronger’ after the defeat made it their fourth-worst calender year in history.
“I thank everyone who prayed for me during my injury, being on the field today after five months was truly a special day for me,” wrote Amad.
“This team will come back stronger like it always has, I am proud, and I thank God for allowing me to be on this team.”
Erik ten Hag signed Antony from Ajax in a major deal during the 2022 summer transfer window and the Brazilian has failed to impress at Old Trafford.
He scored once in 2023 and was unable to impact the game at the City Ground.
Speaking on Amad after the game, Ten Hag said: “I thought Amad Diallo came in and [played] very good.”
The manager was more impressed with his side in the second half, compared to the first, despite the loss.
“First half performance was OK. We invested to do less in the final third. I think we should have created more,” he added.
“The second half we had moments when we conceded goals. Then we come back in the game and I think the game was ours and we went for 2-1 and then we conceded. We had our moments but it was not good enough to win here.”
