Amad Diallo has opened up on the knee issue that saw him be replaced in the second half of Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Amad, 21, started his first game for United since 2021, and it was a difficult game to come into. Arsenal needed a win to still have hope of winning the Premier League title.

Despite being on the losing team, Amad was one of the best players on the pitch. The Ivorian brought confidence and quality not seen on the right wing at Old Trafford for some time.

However, the winger was replaced by Antony after 70 minutes which initially perplexed some fans before it was noticed that Amad was on the floor and holding his knee.

He had gone down after a challenge inside the box from Thomas Partey in the first half and the game drifted away from United after he was taken off.

Thankfully, Amad has since confirmed that the issue is not serious and that the first-half incident had only bothered him in the second half.

“The knee-to-knee in the first half bothered me in the second half; otherwise, I’m fine,” he wrote on social media.

It was a knee injury that Amad suffered against Arsenal in pre-season that heavily impacted his season.

However, the youngster has firmly stated his case to start on Wednesday against Newcastle after being overlooked in recent weeks.

“He played very good and did what we expected him to do,” said Ten Hag of the winger. “He was brave and creative and defended very good. I was pleased with his performance.”

Amad scored the last-gasp winner in the FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool earlier this year.

He will be hoping to build on his impressive performance on Sunday to be in with a chance of starting at Wembley against Manchester City in the final later this month.
