Altay Bayındır has been told what he must do if he wants to replace André Onana as goalkeeper of Manchester United under Erik ten Hag.

Altay Bayındır will make his Manchester United debut on Sunday afternoon as Erik ten Hag selects his XI to face Newport County in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

With André Onana unavailable due to AFCON, Bayındır will get his first minutes for the club after signing for a fee of around £5 million on a 5-year contract.

Onana has played every minute of the campaign so far, and former United defender Paul Parker has explained that if Bayındır wants to usurp the Cameroon international as Ten Hag’s first-choice, he must show he can be reliable and less erratic than the No. 24.

“Bayindir won’t have many games to prove himself,” Parker explained to bettingexpert.

“Unfortunately, the club decided to keep Onana a bit longer, which was really bad reading. Extremely bad. And now, it depends on Cameroon. When will he be back? We don´t know, and luckily for Bayındır, they managed to qualify from their group, which might give him a bit of extra time to shine.

“Bayındır needs to show now that he is a proper goalkeeper who you can rely on. It doesn´t matter if he concedes goals, but I want to see some calmness from him.

“Onana’s big problem is that he is erratic. Bayindir needs to show that he can save balls, catch balls and give the defence a bit of relaxedness.”

He continued: “Hopefully, he can prove that he is better than Onana.

“If he does perform well, it will be very tough for Erik ten Hag to put him on the bench. People would seriously question his decision-making once again.”
